BLUEBERRY AND BLACKBERRY SMOOTHIE

BLUEBERRY AND BLACKBERRY SMOOTHIE

The secret of this energy-boosting smoothie is spirulina, a powder derived from freshwater algae. It may sound strange, but it's good for the body: it's a complete protein and a plant-based source of iron, B vitamins, antioxidants and calcium. Add to this the healthy fats of hemp seeds, and you've got a balanced snack that's sure to give you a boost.

Ingredients - for 1 person

  • 1/4 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/3 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1 teaspoon spirulina

Preparation tips

  • At the bottom of your smoothie glass, mash the blackberries, lemon juice and vanilla with a fork. Once you've achieved a crushed, slightly chunky consistency, set the glass aside.
  • Place the almond milk, blueberries, banana, hemp seeds and spirulina in a blender and blend on high speed until completely smooth and creamy, for about 45 seconds.
  • Pour the blackberry purée into the glass.

There's a reason why bananas and berries are a classic smoothie combination: they taste delicious together, they're both very accessible in fresh or frozen form, and they provide plenty of energy and nutritional benefits.

This smoothie builds on that reliable combination with highly effective superfoods and a particularly pretty marbled effect.
